Abstract: Back to the Future provides social and spatial landscapes through which characters display gendered hierarchies. A multiple masculinities framework is applied through content analysis of the trilogy, showing that hegemonic masculinity is less valuable than a more nuanced masculinity; exercising self-control ensures both Marty and George make their futures successful.
