Submitted by Josef Robert Eckert on

Congratulations to Siqiao Shay Xie, who was offered and accepted a position in the London School of Economics (LSE) Master of Science program in Urbanization and Development. This graduate program focuses on urbanization in developing regions, with emphases on demographic, social, economic, political, and cultural geographies, as well as legacies of colonialism in the developing world. The program’s course of study will include issues such as housing, land markets, gender, governance, and the role of global development institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Shay’s undergraduate studies in Geography here at UW have prepared him well for his future graduate training. He has developed a strong interest in urban development, particularly in the comparison between cities of the global south and the US context. He is particularly interested in studying issues of immigration, especially the assimilation of Chinese immigrants in large North American cities. This next step in his educational career will provide Shay with an excellent opportunity to further his intellectual pursuits in Geography.
