Our passionate faculty and staff are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment and supporting your undergraduate experience in many different ways. We are proud to support a number of projects and opportunities in our department that contribute to fostering a unique undergraduate community.
Plenum
Plenum Journal of Undergraduate Geography is the department's undergraduate research journal. It is edited and peer-reviewed by undergraduate students in our department, and receives mentorship from faculty and graduate students. Plenum aims to foster academic growth on the individual level, build community within undergraduate geography, and contribute to larger conversations in geography with high-quality undergraduate research.
Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium
Each year, the department hosts an exciting undergraduate research symposium where our undergraduates present their excellent research to a public audience. Presentations and projects vary in topic and style, and can be done individually or as a group. Students receive feedback from a team of judges as well. Read about our 2019 symposium.
Interdisciplinary Writing Studio
The Interdisciplinary Writing Studio (located in Smith Hall 113B) offers tutoring sessions for students with tutors who have experience writing and tutoring in CHID, GEOG, and GWSS.
Colloquium
Colloquium offers a space for shared intellectual exploration. Each year the Department of Geography hosts a lecture series, inviting guest speakers to share exciting research from geography and intersecting disciplines. These lectures are free and open to our broader community.
Department Events
Throughout the year, the department hosts a number of events. These include colloquium, field trips, study breaks, and more. Visit the department calendar for a full list of events.
