Field labor jobs are common in the Northern California agricultural community where Olivia Orosco grew up. As they drove around, her father would often remind her, “This is why you go to school, Mija. So, you don’t have to work outside like your grandfather.” But she also loved to be outside in the dirt.
"In my head I had, this rhetoric of the outdoors being violent or exploitive of Latinos. At the same time, I have always loved plants and being outside and exploring the beauty of nature.”
