Katharyne Mitchell receives Guggenheim Fellowship

Professor Katharyne Mitchell has been awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship for 2016-17!  This year’s Guggenheim Fellowships were awarded to 175 individuals with applications numbering nearly 3,000.  Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of distinguished achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishments. This is the third time a UW Geography faculty member has received a Guggenheim Fellowship.  Previous recipients include Professors Richard Morrill and Mark Ellis. As a Guggenheim Fellow,Katharyne will continue and expand her research on sanctuary in Europe this fall and conduct follow-up research trips in the winter and spring of 2017 relevant to her book project, The Sanctuary Archipelago: European Migration and the Politics of Refuge.
